Horizon school division achieves VCR gold level reporting status two years in a row
Some people sit around and wait until they are told what to do. Others take action and become innovators and leaders in their community. These are the kind of people and organizations that participate in the Voluntary Registry and Challenge (VCR). The VCR was established in 1997 to promote the voluntary reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada.
Andy Tuveson, facilities manager of the Horizon School Division, recognizes the importance of lowering energy bills, reducing the ecological footprint of schools and fostering environmental awareness in students. He is also the coordinator of the Carbon Busters program in this school division in southern Alberta. Currently 12 out of 17 schools are participating in the Carbon Busters program and are working hard to reduce their energy consumption.
The Horizon School Division is one of only 3 school divisions in Canada to achieve Gold Level Reporting in 2003, and one of only 2 schools to achieve Gold Level in 2004. Gold level is the highest level of reporting achievable. Congratulations Andy Tuveson and the Horizon School Division!
