Carbon Busters has been involved in carbon accounting and utility tracking, monitoring and analysis since 1993 when the company commenced operations. We employ customized spreadsheets tailored to the needs of individual facilities. Over the course of many years we have not only provided clients with detailed information on their utility consumption, costs and savings as well as their carbon emissions, but we have also identified scores of utility and accounting errors that have resulted in the reimbursement of significant sums to our clients. In one case, utility billing errors totaling about $250,000 were identified for a single facility.
Carbon Busters includes utility tracking, monitoring and analysis and carbon accounting as a stand-alone service, but also includes it as a component of both our energy audits and self-funding school programs. In one municipality we identifed numerous utility billing errors in the records of all the facilities audited except for one. In some cases clients had been overcharged for years until Carbon Busters identified the problem in the course of our energy audits.
Similar errors are discovered in the course of our self-funding energy efficiency programs for schools. In one case a school had been billed for years for a meter that did not exist. In other cases schools were overbilled by tens of thousands of dollars as a result of false estimates and billing errors.
