Carbon Busters savings:

In cooperation with custodians, students and staff of participating schools Carbon Busters has reduced the output of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas, by 55,821 tons (over 55 million kilograms) since 1993. This is equivalent to the GHG emissions of over 37,812 compact cars in one year.

The participating schools in Canada and Europe have saved approximately CDN $18.3 million in power, heating and water/sewer costs between 1993 and 2004, an average yield of $44,325 per building complex (assuming an average size of 4,500 m2) or $11.08 per square meter. Six million dollars of that total flowed directly or indirectly back to the school districts. Four million dollars were invested in additional efficiency measures allowing the continued reduction of CO2 emissions, saving of funds and improvement of indoor air quality.

Two million dollars were made available to the schools for discretionary uses such as buying teaching materials or new computer equipment or funding a celebration as a reward for the conservation efforts. Some program participants invested their share in further environmental measures.

The average utility savings for all participating schools amount to 18%.
