Workshops 2004 "Water is life!"
May 2004: Over 280 participants in 9 Alberta schools took part in this year's workshops. Students learned about water consumption in their school, water conservation, wetlands and water quality. Elementary students participated in setting up small ponds in their classroom and identified various aquatic invertebrates and learned more about wetlands through a series of games. Older students determined the quality of the water using a bioindicator test as well as a series of chemical tests.
Workshops 2003 "Energy Detectives"
The CarbonBusters team concluded the Workshop: "Energy Detectives" for the schoolyear 2002/2003 in May of 2003.
The fun and interactive workshops took place in Canada and Germany from March until June and catered to student representatives of different ages. Students learned about Energy Conservation at home and at their school as well as new technologies and green appliances that will lessen the environmental impact on our planet in the future. The highlight for students was when they were able to measure the energy consumption of some common appliances found at school and detect some energy leeches! Students then measured the light levels of some rooms in their school and were able to determine some areas where they could increase their savings. Participants were able to meet students from other schools, tried out a solar-powered car and had a chance to win some cool door prices.
