The Sparling School Garden Club in Camrose is the winner of our Carbon Busters Challenge!

From left to right: Colleen Nelson (Vice-Principal), Shirley Helmig (Volunteer), Shanthu Mano (Carbon Busters team member), Claudia Bolli (Carbon Busters team member)
Bottom row: Student members of the Sparling School Garden Club

Under the supervision of teachers and volunteers, students in Grades 1-6 plant flowers and vegetables in the school flowerbeds and planters. The students work co-operatively, take pride in greening their school and practise their writing skills by recording their observations and work in a gardening journal. They learn about plants and their care, food production, water conservation, as well as harmful and beneficial insects. Vegetables ready to be harvested will be donated to people in need through the local food bank.

As a prize for their efforts and taking action on greening their school grounds, the Garden Club received a solar-powered water feature. Congratulations, Sparling students, teachers and volunteers on winning the 1st prize of the Carbon Busters Challenge for 2005!
