Carbon Busters® savings:
Carbon Busters has helped school districts reduce their output of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases by over 70 million kilograms of CO2e since 1993 through our self-funding programs. This is equivalent to the GHG emissions of more than 45,000 compact cars over one year. Between 1993 to 2007 the schools participating in our program also saved over $24.5 million CDN in power, heating and water/ sewer costs, an average annual yield of over $11,500 per building complex (assuming an average building size of 4,500 m2) or $2.57 per square meter per year. Over 17 million dollars of that total flowed back to our clients, of which more than $9 million were allocated for reinvestment in additional efficiency measures allowing the continued reduction of GHG emissions and utility costs. Almost $4 million (less taxes) went directly into the school districts' coffers while over $4.7 million was allocated to the schools to spend as they saw fit. Some program participants invested their share in further environmental measures. The average utility savings for all participating schools amounted to 18%. The following table provides a summary of the results in participating school districts:
