Samuel MacDonald
Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Designer
Samuel has a background in philosophy and environmental ethics, but after one too many fruitless arguments about fossil fuel consumption, he decided to do something about it. Turning to the Alternative Energy Technology program at NAIT, he learned about a wide variety of renewable energy technologies. After training on solar PV, wind energy, hydrogen fuel cells, micro-hydro, energy storage, various types of bio-energy, heat pumps, and energy efficiency measures, he started a capstone project with Carbon Busters serving as industry leaders. The completion of which produced a mathematical model capable of optimizing a community energy system that utilizes thermal energy storage, comparing the economics of electricity between solar PV, wind, & grid sources and of thermal energy from ground source heat pumps or air-source heat pumps.
